Find Relief From Your Dry Eye Symptoms

The outer surface of the eyes is made of delicate tissues including the cornea, sclera, and conjunctiva. Tears play an important role in protecting these structures as they hydrate, lubricate, and even shield your eyes. Without the appropriate quality or volume of tears, your eyes can become vulnerable to dry eyes which can cause irritation, fluctuating vision and may even suffer damage.

Visual Sense Eye Care uses advanced technology to identify the source of your dry eyes, then prescribes the most effective treatment for you.

Types of Dry Eye Disease

Aqueous Deficiency Dry Eye

Your tears are essentially made of three elements; mucous (the mucin layer), water (the aqueous layer) and meibum (the lipid layer). Aqueous deficiency dry eye is when the eyes and eyelids do not produce enough tears to keep the eyes hydrated and lubricated. This type of dry eye disease is less common than evaporative dry eye.

Evaporative Dry Eye

Your tears contain a special oil, called meibum, which covers the surface of your tears in a very thin film. This lipid layer keeps your tears from evaporating too quickly. Without the appropriate meibum levels, your tears will evaporate from the surface of the eye without properly hydrating and lubricating the delicate tissues.
